At Tara Junior School, we have been given another wonderful opportunity to be a part of the Daughters and Dads Active and Empowered Cricket Program. Our School was the first in Australia to have such a program offered to it in early 2021 and following its success, we will be hosting the program again in 2022. The program is an award-winning evidence-based initiative, proven to enhance the physical and social-emotional well-being of girls, developed by the University of Newcastle, Australia.
What is the program?
The engaging program is a combination of physical and educational sessions, which include a focus of the week. Dads focus on their daughter’s social-emotional and physical wellbeing and supporting their daughters in a gendered world - while daughters get to spend quality time with their dads. Over nine weeks, the educational sessions for daughters and dads focus on:
- Bravery
- Self-control
- Critical Thinking
- Resilience
- Persistence
- Positivity
The 30-minute theory component provides daughters and dads with a weekly theme that will provide information such as positive female cricket role models and the power of positive thinking. The 60-minute practical session comprises of three components, which incorporate rough and tumble activities, cricket skills, games and fitness.
