The dilemma I face as a prolific ‘maker’ is the curse of the UFO. The UFOs in my world, and in the lives of most creatives I know, are UnFinished Objects, or more optimistically, Works in Progress (WIP). I have a collection of ‘in-progress’ weavings, jumpers, quilts, drawings, embroideries—and let’s not even talk about the Christmas stockings my three youngest grandchildren are still waiting for, despite having celebrated several Christmases already.
This notion of the “unfinished” is also very real in our work at Tara. We view our students (and ourselves) as genuine works in progress. This does not mean we see children as empty vessels waiting to be filled—a view long discredited in educational theory. On the contrary, we recognise that children arrive at school full of experience, capability and knowledge. From birth, every child is wired to learn. They are natural constructivists: curious, observant and actively piecing together their understanding of the world. Just think about what they have already mastered in their first five years of life!
But we do recognise that teachers play a pivotal role in this ongoing process of becoming. Throughout the year, every teacher at Tara understands that they are not your daughter’s first teacher, nor will they be her last. Through explicit, thoughtful and intentional planning, teaching and evaluation, your daughter’s teacher serves as just one collaborator, guide and caretaker on her journey to develop:
- Character – who she is as a person, and how she relates to others
- Knowledge – what she understands about herself, others and the world
- Skill – what she can do across all domains of life and learning
- Creativity – the ingenuity she brings to each of these domains
Just like my half-stitched quilts and almost-completed knitted scarves, our daughters are wonderfully, beautifully unfinished. They are evolving works in progress—growing, experimenting, refining and discovering who they are becoming. At Tara, we embrace this ongoing process with pride and purpose, supporting each girl as she adds new threads, colours and patterns to the unique masterpiece she is creating.
While I lived in Amsterdam I loved visiting the home of Corrie ten Boom, the house now a monument to her life’s work and faith in action. Corrie famously described our lives as a tapestry: from the underside we see loose threads, knots and tangles, but God sees us from the front finished design—purposeful, intricate and full of meaning. In the same way, even when our girls’ learning journey feels messy or is incomplete, we trust that God is patiently and faithfully weaving something beautiful. Their “unfinishedness” is not a flaw but a sign of His ongoing craftsmanship.
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

Lunar New Year Celebration
Lunar New Year Celebration
Our Tara community came together recently to celebrate Lunar New Year with a vibrant and joy-filled breakfast that truly reflected the warmth and diversity of our school.
The morning was filled with delicious food, shared laughter, and a wonderful sense of connection. Guests enjoyed an array of beautifully prepared dishes, generously contributed and arranged with great care. We extend our sincere thanks to Jenny and Ann for their incredible organisation of the event - their dedication and attention to detail ensured the celebration was both seamless and special.
We are also deeply grateful to the many amazing parents who generously gave their time to assist with preparations and set-up on the day. Your support helped create such a welcoming and festive atmosphere for all.

A highlight of the morning was the spectacular Lion Dance performance by Australia Jing Yee Lion Dance, which captivated the audience with its colour, rhythm, and symbolism. The performance brought energy and excitement to the celebration, marking the occasion in a truly memorable way.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event such a meaningful celebration of culture, community, and togetherness at Tara.

Thank you to all the parents who braved the wet weather last week to join us for the Twilight at Tara Welcome Drinks.
It was a wonderful evening as we welcomed parents back for another fantastic year at Tara.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Tara Hub Committee for their support and attendance, and to Jane Furniss for addressing the group. Jane spoke about the vital role of the Hub in fostering community connection while supporting fundraising initiatives, and warmly encouraged everyone to become involved throughout the year.
It was lovely to see so many familiar faces, along with a number of new parents, coming together. Even on a rainy evening, the strength of the Tara community spirit was clearly on display.

Something I have noticed at Tara is everyone taking part in Saturday sports. I saw lots of Junior School children in Term 1 doing Waterpolo, Flippaball and Football on Monday and Wednesday afternoon trainings, and Tara got a few wins on Saturday as well.
Another big event I would like to recognise is the recent scholarship exams. I saw so many girls take part in the tests even though they were extremely difficult (especially mathematics!). This shows to me that girls at Tara are independently striving to excel and seize opportunities as they arise.
Good job to all the girls standing for Tara on the weekend; I cannot wait to see you all on Saturday!

Years 3-6 Swimming Carnival 2026
Our Years 3–6 Swim Carnival was a wonderful day of energy, encouragement, and House spirit, with students embracing every opportunity to participate, challenge themselves, and cheer on their peers.
The program included a range of events designed to celebrate both effort and excellence. Participation races saw girls confidently diving in and giving their best, while the championship races showcased impressive skill, determination, and sportsmanship. The excitement continued with the much-anticipated House relays, where teamwork and enthusiasm were on full display as Houses rallied together poolside.
A highlight of the day was the Parent–Daughter relay events, which brought plenty of smiles and laughter. We extend our sincere thanks to the parents who joined in - your willingness to participate helped create such a joyful and memorable atmosphere for the girls.
Congratulations to all students for their effort, courage, and House pride throughout the day.

Year 11 and 12 attend OnStage
Recently, our Year 11 and 12 Drama students attended OnStage at the Seymour Centre, an annual showcase celebrating exemplary HSC Drama performances from across New South Wales.
OnStage features a curated selection of outstanding Individual Projects and group performances, providing students with the opportunity to witness the creativity, depth, and skill demonstrated by their peers at the highest level. The experience offered valuable insight into the standards of excellence expected in HSC Drama, as well as inspiration for students currently developing their own performance and design work.

Year 7 Camp
Year 7 Camp

Our Year 7 students recently stepped out of their comfort zones and into a week of exciting new experiences through their action-packed adventure program. Designed to encourage growth, resilience, and teamwork, the program offered a wide range of activities that challenged students both physically and personally.
From learning to surf and trying stand-up paddle boarding to navigating high ropes courses, canoeing, and more, each activity invited the girls to embrace new challenges and support one another along the way. Whether mastering a new skill or cheering on a friend, the experience fostered confidence, perseverance, and a strong sense of camaraderie.
Beyond the activities themselves, the program provided a valuable opportunity for students to strengthen friendships and come together as a cohort. Shared experiences like these help build trust, encourage collaboration, and create lasting memories that shape the foundations of their Senior School journey.
We are incredibly proud of the courage, enthusiasm, and positive spirit our Year 7 students demonstrated throughout the program. It was a fantastic experience that truly reflected Tara’s commitment to helping girls grow in confidence while discovering what they are capable of achieving.

Senior School Swimming Carnival 2026
Our recent Senior School Swimming Carnival was a wonderful celebration of House spirit, determination and athletic excellence, with students giving their all both in and out of the pool. The day showcased not only impressive performances but also the strong sense of encouragement and camaraderie that defines our school community.
Congratulations to our individual champions:
- Junior Swim Champion: Joanna X
- Intermediate Swim Champion: Pare N – who also set new records in every individual event she swam
- Senior Swim Champion: Sarah S
House spirit was on full display, with Hake House enjoying a particularly successful day. Their enthusiasm, teamwork and participation saw them named both CAC Champion House and Overall House Champion—a testament to their collective commitment and energy from the first race to the final event.
Special recognition also goes to our Boarders, who delivered a fantastic performance to win the much-anticipated Day Girl vs Boarder relay, and to Walker House, who impressed spectators and judges alike with their creativity and coordination to take out the Synchronised Swimming event.
Events such as the Swimming Carnival are a highlight of the school year, bringing together students across year groups to support one another, celebrate achievement and strengthen House pride. We congratulate all competitors for their participation, resilience and enthusiasm, and we thank staff and student leaders whose organisation and encouragement helped make the day such a success.
